Chea-P-S: How to Get even the cheapest USB-GPS
Working Under Linux
There are two kinds of GPS-receivers: those used by hikers and boaters
that include a display (like the garmin etrex on the left) which
are generally very expensive and then there are the small cheap
usb-gps like the one from deluo (on the left). The usb-GPS also
has the additional advantage that it does not need any batteries.
The disadvantage of the cheap usb-gps is the fact, that there is
not as much software as for the more expensive Garmin-family.
The only software that works really well with both the garmin and
the usb-gps is GPSD from
www.pygps.org. What follows is
a quick explanation of how you can process the gps-output using
PHP. [ more ]
